Uganda October 2013

Alta and I had a good time in Kampala. We spent time getting everything in order towards graduation. Many of the students have such low self-image and never believed they would complete the course. So many of them were lingering through the year. But now they can see that they can achieve graduation, and are eager to catch up. They are re-writing exams for some of the subjects and paying their tuition fees up-to-date. Alta and I stayed on in Kampala for an extra 3 days, so as to get the administration on par. It is exciting to see the enthusiasm amongst these students.

Uganda, the land of order. I will never forget the first time I set my feet on the ground at Entebbe Airport, in September 2007. While standing in the queue, waiting for my visa, my whole body was covered in goose-flesh! I experienced a sense of “spiritual order”. There was something different about this country!

It was already dark when we arrived in Kampala. There were informal shops all along the streets. Later I would learn about the work ethics of the people. It is not unusual to find builders working under lights, even at 9pm. And it even appears that they are enjoying their work!

One thing that we have had to become accustomed to, wherever we stay, is the loud music which keeps one awake at night!. And this is not just any music, it is church music with singers filling the air with continuous sounds of joy and excitement.
